This would mean that the guest was not installed with a multi processor kernel, and io apic must be enabled as well.
You can either boot to safe mode and try to fix it with HALu or install it again.

OK,
I now have a system (XP3 guest) which seams to be stable, or at least it doesn't go "aborted" every now and then,
But it is so sloooooowwwww !!!

I've opened the guest 6 minutes ago, and I'm still waiting for the desk to appear !!
I haven't change anything to the widow settings, not yet anyway

It is just so damn slow :(

What have I done ?

Sure !
I was just waiting for the taskbar and the overhaul widow desk to appears to have something to talk about ... 44 minutes !!!

But now that the desktop is up, I press the update button and it goes like a fly, very quick, and no crash.

Code: Select all

00:00:01.365 SharedFolders host service: adding host mapping
00:00:01.365 Host path '/media/Documents', map name 'Documents', writable, automount=true, create_symlinks=false
00:00:01.365 SharedFolders host service: adding host mapping
00:00:01.365 Host path '/media/Music', map name 'Music', writable, automount=true, create_symlinks=false
I have never been a fan of the auto-mount shared folders. I am wondering if this is the reason for your slow boot and would like you to remove them and try again. If the boot sequence is speeded up substantially we can use a different shared folder mounting.

Install/updat Kaspersky and got my first crash

The log:

It did install well, untill it "loaded" and gathered information, that's when I got the Guru telling me about the VB being frozen. It is the first time I meet the Guru (all my previous crashes were silent and much more quick so I couldn't even see anything)

I'm sorry it crashed, but I'm glad I saw the guru, it means something actually improved !

oops .. didn't come as 288kb. here is a zip version

Kaspersky is known to cause issues in a Virtual Guest (not just VirtualBox). I would really like to get all the base issues resolved with your install and not add more to it that will make it all but possible to do. You can add packages after you have a stable guest environment.

currently:

Kaspersky didn't install (at least it doesn't show up at start)
I've removed shared folders (which are hard partition from previous hard install XP)
The process "explorer.exe" is the one being so slow to load up

I'm restarting the VB using the "ctrl-alt-suppr" cmd plus "restart" as I don't have access to normal path.

BTW: The machine takes ages to shut down :/

Let's go for another Clean Install, but I won't install Kasper this time.

I might also suggest that you start over clean. Select delete the guest and all files. Then just use the default settings for now. And no shared folder until later.

Will do !

So ... now tweak in RAM, nor video mem, nor nothing, just the out of the box standard.

Yup. the memory can be increased later, as well as the video memory, shared folder, and everything else. The only exception is if you want to use more than one processor (SMP) which is really not advised in 32 bit XP because it does not need it.

One question, as I don't remember you saying, where did you get your version of VirtualBox?

DL from the website, installed (with some trouble easy to fix with http://forums.opensuse.org/content/59-h ... eweed.html)

I've uninstalled the Suse version of VB and VM, theninstalled the VB from the VB website.
