Hello everyone,
So I am new to VB like many users and I plan on using it so that I can simultaneously run both OS X (host) software and Windows 7 (guest) software simultaneously. The software that I want to run on the guest machine is PCDJ DMX (otherwise known as BlueLite X1). It is old software that needed a special patch to work on Windows 7. As of now I have gotten the software to install correctly so that it can recognize the DMX hardware box hooked up to my Mac (the host machine). That was a little troublesome with the whole USB situation.
Anyway, this is where I am stuck. Whenever I try to run the software I get an error saying: "Cannot initialize DirectX. DirectX 8.1 or higher must be installed and you Display settings must be set to 16-bit or 32-bit color for this application to run." I am assuming that through my research that this is a graphics issue. Although I am not sure that it was installed correctly (and I think that I tried uninstalling and reinstalling) I did install the guest additions. I also tried installing Direct3D (saying both yes and no afterward) both in safe mode and in regular Windows. That leads me to my first question, how do I know if Direct3D is installed? I have run DirectX and I am not sure what to look for. As another note, I have made sure that there is 128mb of video ram.
Does anyone know how I could get this working or what my main problem is?
Thanks for all of your help!

Re: DirectX Graphics Issue
Is 2D and 3D acceleration enabled in the VM settings?
Re: DirectX Graphics Issue

Re: DirectX Graphics Issue
I would try re-installing the guest additions now that the correct hardware is being simulated. Other than that, I'm not a Mac user so I'm afraid anything much more will require a Mac expert to comment.
Re: DirectX Graphics Issue
I am not exactly sure how to uninstall in order to re-install. Do I need to boot the virtual machine into safe mode? I had some difficulty installing the additions in the first place. Is there a link that I can see to the correct walk through? I wasn't exactly sure which boxes I was supposed to check off and to say yes or no or what. I had tried several times and then got something to sorta work and that is where I am now.
Thanks for your help

Re: DirectX Graphics Issue
To uninstall the guest additions in Windows generally you go to Control Panel and run the Add/Remove programs applet. In the case of a Win7 guest that's Start | Control Panel | Programs and Features, then "Uninstall a program" (only needed if the latter branch is not selected by default).
