Alibre 10 not working under Windows XP Pro VirtualBox VM
I was wondering if anyone is having the same problem with running Alibre 10 in Windows XP under an Ubuntu 64-bit Virtualbox VM? I got it to install, but the workspace is blank. It just won't load or something, So I can start the program, but I can't do any work. I checked with Alibre and they said it had something to do with the video drivers. I'm using the latest add-on for the vms and still no go. I don't know if the virtualbox guys are aware of this or not, so I thought I ask. Thanks.
No go...
For anyone else trying to run Alibre 10 sp1 under VirtualBox, don't bother. I also tried running it under VMware on a different machine under a different Windows OS and I get the same problem. So don't bother with it at this point unless you only have windows on your machine. It just won't work unfortunately. Plus the program has gotten too restrictive just to install it which is a pain. I can only think of two things, it may just be the program or the vm's don't allow the video to work correctly since this is what Alibre kept pointing me to.
Update
I have two older versions of Alibre. 8x and 92. I decided to install an old one just for kicks under vbox and the old one worked. It was ver 92, just have to click on the don't want anything button to bypass. At least I can get that to work. Of course I did the stupid update to 92 sp1 and that just broke the program, So At the moment Alibre is going backwards since it's tough to just open the "free" version and just play with it.
Before the above, I reinstalled windows just to run the Alibre 10 without a virtual machine. I also reset my account password, but couldn't get pass that pesky initial nagging screen. I think the server was also having some problems because it kept spitting out errors last night and also stated that there's something wrong with my account? Did they lock me out for pointing out some problems with the program? I'm not sure, but I hope not. I was having a very bad day and well, I just couldn't get anything showing up, so I may not have been the nicest that day. I just think it's a very bad thing if you are forced to log into a server just to open a program. So what happens when the server is not available, you're just not allowed to work?
Now I'm trying to install it on my laptop to see if I can get two out of three working, but vbox now gives me a different ip from the hosts so I can't get to my nas anymore. Guys, what gives? I just updated to the lates xx.6 and I'm still gettting the same thing...what did I missed here? Anyone,,,

Alibre under virtualbox
Hi,
You mention being able to run Alibre 9.2 under virtualbox. I am trying to run 9.1 under VB 1.6.1, and when I open a part editor window, I just get a gray background in the drawing area. I cannot draw on the editing area.
Did you need to do anything specific to get 9.2 to work under VB?
Thanks,
Duane

Sorry for the late, late response Duane...
Unfortunately I got tired of trying to get the program working under virtualbox and just stopped using virtual anything. I came back to see if anyone has had any luck after my trials, but I guess not.
To answer your question, I can't remember what version I had back then, I know it was not the one that came with the OS. I had to download that version manually from virtualbox. As for the Alibre installation, you need to make sure you haven't installed any other newer versions of the program and the install should go fine without any problems. You'll get the nagging screens but then you can bypass them and should be able to work without any other problems. You don't need to do anything special after the install.
The newer versions won't let you bypass those nagging screens. If you install the newer version then try to uninstall it, they lock you out so you can't use anything older even after you take it out. So I have stopped using the program altogether, they just made it too frustrating to even try to use the "free" version. I hope this helps.
