When I try to insatall Windows 8 RP (June 2012) in Virtual Box 4.1.16, it shows "Windows(R)" for a few seconds, then it gives me the following message, white text on black screen:

Your computer needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button.

Host OS: Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E6750
PAE/NX: Enabled
Boot from ISO (also tried boot from host DVD, same error)
Tried both 64 and 32 bit versions

Windows 8 Customer Preview worked fine on the same PC with one step older 4x Virtual Box.

EDIT: SHA 1Hash tested ok.

Did you check the md5sum of the download?

No, i don't know how.
Is md5="Sha 1 hash" (0x8BED436F0959E7120A44BF7C29FF0AA962BDEFC9)?

Edit:
Advanced Hash Calculator says: 8BED436F0959E7120A44BF7C29FF0AA962BDEFC9
Microsoft download says: Sha 1 hash — 0x8BED436F0959E7120A44BF7C29FF0AA962BDEFC9
Only difference is the "0x" at the start of the string from Microsoft.

I would ask Microsoft what to do.

The "0x" means the number is in hexadecimal, IIRC. You can ignore it. All those hashes look the same.

BTW, MD5deep (http://md5deep.sourceforge.net/) has lots of different hash functions available (more than the md5 the program is named for). I use it to do SHA256 hashes on rsynced 160GB Virtualbox VDI's I back up from work to my boss's house, to serve as an over-the-web substitute for Microsoft's FC.

I had to make an Oracle login, but I wanted to tell you guys the answer. You have to enable "no execute bit" in BIOS. Also make sure it's checked in VirtualBox. That should do the trick (it did for me anyway).

That did the trick for me too, but in my ASRock P41 BIOS that option is called "No-Execute Memory Protection", like on this screenshot (sorry. can't post urls)

I've tried to install Windows 8 (32-bit release preview) in a Virtual machine. I get this same message after about 5 minutes
In the BIOS, by default, Execute disable bit is set to 'available'. I tried the alternative setting ('not available') with the same result. Virtualbox also has the PAE/NX box checked.

Host computer is a Toshiba laptop with Intel U5400 processor. According to intel (and virtualbox) it doesn't support VT-x (that's why I'm trying 32-bit Win but it should support NX. Virtualbox is 4.1.18.

Does anyone know how I might get around this issue?
