hi guys,
i did some experimenting on my VM
i read in this forum that upgrading GA sometimes is not easy and goes wrong
so i tried to find a good way to do it
so i took a snapshot and began to experiment
i took my vista VM
i run 4.1.8 with correct GA i installed the WDDM drivers without safe mode
first i tried to just uninstall the GA with windows remove program
i immediately ran into problems
the VB uninstaller failed to remove the video driver !
i aborted and started over again
this time i used a free uninstaller program to uninstall the GA
again the VB uninstaller failed in removing the video driver
this time my uninstall program detected 14 leftover files witch i deleted manually
i reboot and the GA were fully removed
the graphics display driver showed only standard vga adapter
so then i installed the new GA
to make it a bit more challenging i downloaded GA from the website in ISO and from a more recent version 4.1.16
i then mounted the ISO with a free mount program from within VISTA
i ran the GA and installed the WDDM driver
i went without hickups !
i rebooted and i had a fully working VISTA with GA from another version
and it works very good
i even got aero to work wich priviously with the 4.1.8 GA does not work !
just wanted to share this...
hope it does anyone some good...
Jimmy
