Hi
Please forgive me if this is a FAQ and if it is please point me to it.
I have Hyper-V .vhd file that I would like to use for several other virtual machines however when I try to create a new machine and chose the .vhd file I get 'Guid already exists......' error.
Basically what I want is to create a new machines on a copy of the same .vhd file
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards
Steen

Get one VM working first. Then make clones of it (right click, select "clone"). I suggest full (not linked) clones.
I also suggest that you convert VHD into something more reliable, such as VDI.

Have you actually succeeded in booting your .vhd under VirtualBox? The vm used by Hyper-V is quite different from the one used by VirtualBox and the integration components can also cause problems. I have had very little success with Hyper-V .vhd files and VirtualBox.

Files from other virtualization programs have unique Tools or Additions that are based on propriety interfaces. They do not work on/with/under other virtualization programs. If you choose to migrate or convert, then the propriety Tools/Additions/etc. should first be removed or uninstalled and then start or initiate your migration or conversion programs/aides.
Next headache is guessing the I/O configuration that created the virtual machine IDE/SCSI, SAS/IDE/SCSI, etc., etc. Best source of information is the virtual machine itself running under/on/in its creator.

That's why I emphasized that he get get one VM working first. Time enough to worry about the mechanics of cloning or sharing when there is something to apply it to!BillG wrote:Have you actually succeeded in booting your .vhd under VirtualBox?
