Problem installing Guest Additions in Ubuntu

Hello there,

I've installed Ubuntu server 12.04 as a guest. I installed dkms.

When I call VBoxLinuxAdditions.run, it reports errors like:
Building the main Guest Additions module ...fail!
Installing the Windows System drivers ...fail!
(Could not find the X Org or XFree86 Window system).

I'm new to Linux and Virtualbox. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Thank you for the amazingly fast response!

I followed the instructions for Debian/Ubuntu systems and installed the various items. I rebooted the VM and called VBoxLinuxAdditions.run.

The output still reports:
headers for the current kernel were not found
that it failed to build Guest Additions
installing WIndows system drivers failed

Any thoughts around this?

Many thanks once again.

Hello again,

Sorry, my bad - when I got the name from uname, I entered -- instead of a single dash in one place, so, a dreaded typo.

After re-specifying the correct value, all went well, with just the error message about the X Window which I think is OK in the circumstances.

Thank you for your amazing support!

Regards.
