Newbie...PLEASE HELP!! Win 8 Install Error
Posted: 22. May 2012, 23:48
I'm new to the VirtualBox software, and have downloaded it to try and install the Windows 8 operating system. I've gone through all the steps and have gotten to the point where the Windows 8 Virtual Machine shows up in the VirtualBox Manager. I click on the "Start" button at the top, which opens up a new box. I see the Windows 8 icon (fish) and the system loads and brings me to the Setup Screen. I enter in my language preferences, then click "Next". The next screen shows "Windows 8" at the top and has an "Install Now" button. I click on "Install Now", and the screen shows "Setup is Starting" and I'm prompted for my Windows 8 Key. I enter the Key I was given when I downloaded the .iso file and then click "Next". I accept the licensing agreement and click "Next". The following screen asks me which type of installation I want. I choose the "Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, settings, and Apps" option, and that is where the problem begins. I am then given a window that says:
Compatibility report:
The computer started using the Windows installation disc. Remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade. (Do not select "Custom (advanced)" to perform an upgrade. "Custom (advanced)" installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings.)
I click "Close" and it takes me back to the screen above that allows me to click on "Install"...and the process just keeps repeating. Ugh!
I've searched Google and also this forum, but have had no luck finding an answer to my problem, so I thought I would post my issue here and hopefully an expert can get me on the right path. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just a few notes:
I'm running the 64bit version of Windows 7 on this machine and am attempting to install the 64bit version of Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Please let me know if you need more information to troubleshoot my issue. Thank you.
