Probably because the base is stored on CD.
On reboot it will more than likely show as not available.

Save the differencing drive state and there is no problem using the save state but restarting the host would ring the error

The error is the prev file not valid and object not found for the differencing drive

Have to recreate another diff drive for the immut vdi on each reboot Any method to rectify rather recreate anther drive?

You need to read the manual. http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch05.h ... magewrites

I am not that sure what you are wanting to achieve but even saved state will look like a reboot AFAIK. If you want to save the differencing image then you would need to --autoreset off. See http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch08.h ... -modifyvdi

Can't do much with partial data. But the error means exactly what it say, although it should reference the actual UUID of the drive it can't find.
Where is the base image stored and where is the differencing image stored, plus what are their UUIDs?

the base is on dvd the difference drive is on host

the difference drive has a save state

open the folder of the difference drive there is a snapshot file on the base and a save state file

on creating the diff drive on the base vbox did not create a diff vdi but rather on powering the diff drive the file create is the temp file on the snapshot

the reason making the error object found on reboot is the above? there is no vdi file vbox is looking for but rather the file is on the snapshot folder?

Like I said to begin with AFAIK the base can not be on the CD/DVD I must me in the hosts drive or at the very least a USB device.
Even though you are not running from the base it must know where it is and be accessible.

You can release and remove the base VDI, copy it to a better location, and mount it again.
