usb key fails to connect virtual box

Hi,

Sorry for my poor english writing (I'm French).

I created a virtual machine, mac os lion host and windows as guest. I used virtual box 4.1.14.

Usb key would not connect the virtual machine. I get the following message : "NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED (0 x 800706BE)".

For USB (2.0) to work at all you must install the extension pack on the host, since USB support is a plug-in feature.

After that, you should add a filter to the VM settings to match the device.

Boot up the VM and plug in the device. You should get a message about the software wanting to install a driver: this is the USB filter driver being installed on the host, so allow it to proceed. You may need admin privileges. Then unplug the device and plug it back in. The VM should now recognize the device.

The above is only necessary for first use of the device. In future runs its best to always plug the device in after the VM has finished booting up.

I installed the extension pack but it still does not work. I get no message after plugging in the device.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I am running VB 4.1.14 on Mac OS X Lion. Guest OS is Win 7 Home Premium.

USB key shows in Guest system Device menu but is stuck as a bad install inside the Guest OS. I have tried the troubleshooter and uninstalling the driver and re-installing inside the Guest OS. This was after installing the Extension Pack. I have also added the filter by the device that's listed when I connect the USB drive. Still no luck.

I can copy the files to a shared folder as a workaround... but I think this function should work. Would really like to resolve this.

Got it... shut down the VM and go to its Ports settings for USB and enable 2.0 EHCI. Sorry I missed that earlier.

Works now... USB drive loads right up!
