Hi everyone,
I'm new to VirtaulBox, and I ran into a problem while trying to install the Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my VM. I have the .iso file, and I believe that I have mounted it properly. Here are the steps that I took (if I made a mistake, please tell me!): 1. After creating a new VM, I clicked on settings. 2. Went to the storage tab. 3. Under IDE Controller, I clicked on "Empty". 4. On the right hand side, under the attributes section, I clicked on the icon of the CD next to the drop down list next to CD/DVD Drive: 5. I clicked on "Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file..." and found the .iso file. 6. I selected it, clicked OK, and then clicked OK to close the settings box.
After doing all this, I started the VM and tried to install Windows 8. After I start it, the following error comes up "VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system. Certain guests (e.g. OS/2 and QNX) require this feature and will fail to boot without it." with options to Close VM, Copy, and Continue. I'm not sure what this error means, but I clicked continue anyway.
After a brief wait, I get to a blue screen with the following messsage:
"Windows Recovery Environment
Your PC Needs to be Repaired
This 64-bit application couldn't load because your PC doesn't have a 64-bit processor. If you're using Windows To Go, make sure your USB device has a version of Windows that's compatible with the PC you're trying to use.
File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Error Code: 0x000035a
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or your PC manufacturer."
It also gives the following options:
"Press Enter to try again"
"Press F8 for alternate boot options"
Both options just lead back to the original page.
Now, to clarify, I am using a 64-bit system and running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried changing the number of CPU's the VM can use (I have a dual core CPU) but that option is grayed out and stuck at 1 CPU. What (if anything) can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

You need to enable VT-x/AMD-v (virtualization) in your bios to be able to run any 64-bit guests

I have the same issue. How do I enable virtualization in my BIOS?

I would start with the PC documentation and if that is missing the manufactures web site.MrHappyGoLucky12 wrote:I have the same issue. How do I enable virtualization in my BIOS?
