Hi,
I have a Windows 7 guest on an Ubuntu host, guest additions installed and a shared folder (machine, not transient), which is seen as "E:" on the guest.
At random times, I boot the guest and the drive E:\ is not there. After reboot, it usually reappears.
This has started happening with VB4, never happened in VB3.
Is there a workaround to prevent this from happening while we wait for the bug to be fixed? Other than just rebooting the guest whenever this happens?
It looks like some kind of timing issue, i.e. sometimes the shared folder is not yet properly inited in VB before the guest tries to connect to it. But this is only an ignorant's guess.
Any idea?
thanks
m.
Shared folder randomly disappears. Any way to prevent this?

I've found as same your problem but I use Windows 2008 R2 Guest. I think, if you try to access to your drive that you shared. The first time you will failed but try again. It's look like the VboxService on your guest does not response for your process. And I try to set the recovery of the VboxService if it fail, I will re-start it. I hope, it can use you.

I think the problem you are experiencing is not the same as mine, if when you try again you can access the drive. I can't even try again because when I experience the issue the drive simply is not there. If I open "My computer" it is not listed so I can't even try to access it.
If I open a Flash Builder project that was saved in that drive (so when you open it it directly tries to access the files on that location), then no, even at the secend try it doesn't succeed.
Up to now the only fixes I've found are either
- restart the guest, or
- add the network drive manually (it _is_ always accessible as a network share \\vboxsrv\whatever), or
- forget about the drive and access it directly as a network share
