acronis true image home 2012 + shared folders

host: win7ult64
guest: win7pro64
network: nat, shared folder via virutalbox extension (automount)

all works fine. i can use the shares on the guest.

now, i want to try out acronis true image home 2012 on the guest before using it on my host and to use a virtualbox share as backup folder.

the problem:
true image wants to me to authenticate (username/password for permission of using the share) and i don't know what to put in for username and password. i tried a lot already but have no more clues what to try next...

Contact Acronis for their technical support. Yours is a typical networking user problem.

As mpack said, contact Acronis tech support to find out how Acronis software works. Your problem is with Acronis, not VirtualBox.

The shared folders are not designed for "production use", only to transfer files between host and guest.
They only look like network folders but don't implement all network functions.
Some applications (like in this case Acronis) get confused by this limited functionality and cannot use the shared folders directly.
The simpliest solution is to create a "real" network share on the host and connect to this one from the guest.

@BillG: that answer is useless to me, until i don't know what the problem is, that acronis has with the virtual box share! pretty sure they would tell me, that there might be something wrong with my virtual box settings. furthermore, it doesn't answer my questions at all. thanks, anyway.

@Martin: thank you very much. that helped a lot. now, i understand what the problem is (and why there's no username/password) and can decide what to do accordingly. i see 2 possiblities now:
1. call acronis for support anyway to maybe get it running with my used setup (nat + vb-share) OR
2. change my setup (bridged mode + real share) to get it working with acronis without any need of calling them.

if i decide to call acronis and get an helpful answer, i will post it here in case someone else gets the the same problem.

Unless the information is specific to VirtualBox, it does not belong here. Martin may be correct in what he said, in which case confirmation would be ok.

Man I really hate automount. Permission issues are but one thing that makes me cringe.

You still may be able to use the shared folders but only with manually mounting the shared folder.

See for the instructions

No guarantee that it will work, but I know from experience that permission issues seem to be a direct relation to automount.

no. automount is not the problem. tried it without. it's acronis, because it wants login data. there no option to leave username and password empty and continue. but thanks for your suggestion.
