VBox 4.1.12 on OSX 10.7.3: No Host DVD Drive found

Hello all !

I am a satisfied vbox user since month, on a linux host. It works flawlessly. :-)

Now I installed Vbox 4.1.12 on my Mac with Lion 10.7.3 but I am not able to use the cd/dvd-drive. All I see in the Storage-Settings is an (always) empty CD/DVD-Device (regardless if it is conneted to an IDE oder SATA Controller). A click on the CD-Icon lets me only choose an image-file, nothing else. None of the inserted CD/DVDs were recognized. The virtual CD/DVD-drive is always empty.
Also the CD-Icon in the buttom-line of the running Vbox (here Win XP) is not usable/clickable.
This behavior depends not on the type of the guest I installed (WinXP/Win7/Linux).

The command "VBoxManage list hostdvds" gives no answer.

Where am I going wrong ? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanx in advance !

-Udo

Not sure about Mac but Linux has the following in the troubleshooting section of the users manual.

If you have configured a virtual machine to use the host's CD/DVD drive, but this does not appear to work, make sure that the current user has permission to access the corresponding Linux device file (/dev/hdc or /dev/scd0 or /dev/cdrom or similar). On most distributions, the user must be added to a corresponding group (usually called cdrom or cdrw).

I have seen a lot of permission issues with Mac lately (traced to installing a printer driver or Adobe Flash) that has changed the permissions as well.

Thank for your answer!

Well, in Linux this would be the first place for me to look, you're right.

But in OS X.... nevertheless I tried it out without success. :-(
The User who runs virtualbox is not only in the appropriate group of the device file but also the owner.
But it did not help, unfortunately.
