hi
i have 2 windows 7 64bit guests running on a linux host. Each guest has its own ip address. When i start the guest vms with a local display using the virtualbox manager, i can rdp to each guest no problem. When i start the guests headless, the rdp will give me the login prompt then disconnects me after i put a username/password in just before the desktop shows up. i dont have rdp running on the host.
i start both guests with a standard
/usr/bin/vboxmanage startvm VM1 -type headless
command
the application log on the guest has this entry after the disconnect
Faulting application name: svchost.exe_TermService, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc3c1
Faulting module name: rdpcorekmts.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16952, time stamp: 0x4f1f9e66
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000000000000a793
Faulting process id: 0x86c
Faulting application start time: 0x01cd1cb0769bd5f8
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\rdpcorekmts.dll
is this a known issue or am i missing something completely obvious?
thx

Re: Headless hosts dropping rdp attempts
I suspect you really want to use the following since you are using RDP and not the vRDP from VBox.
See VBoxHeadless, the remote desktop server in your VirtualBox users guide.
Code: Select all
VBoxHeadless --startvm <uuid|name> --vrde=offRe: Headless hosts dropping rdp attempts
starting it that way has exactly the same effect.
Re: Headless hosts dropping rdp attempts
and i just realised the topic should read headless guests, not headless hosts.
both ways of starting the guests headless give the same results.

Re: Headless hosts dropping rdp attempts
Sorry to say I have no idea what the issue is then. From the looks of it you are using the guests built in RDP and not the vRDP of VBox.
You could go ahead and set up the vRDP to be used (needs Extension Pack) Refer to the section I sent you for how to use it.
Note: You connect using the hosts IP and the port number you assign to the guest/s.

Re: Headless hosts dropping rdp attempts
well as a last attempt at resolving this today i ran updates on the guests and the problem went away.
