Clipboard problems when using RDP to connect to Host & Guest

Post by CoastalData »

Hello,

I sometimes end up using Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) to connect to a host computer, running Win 7 64bit, and then simultaneously to a VirtualBox guest OS running Windows Server 2008.

The problem is that when, and only when, I am connected to both OS's at the same time, my clipboard is like a black hole... it does not work at all. Not locally, and not on either RDP host. All I have to do is to drop either host, and voila! It works again. The problem is that sometimes, I need to copy and paste between them, and I waste time, trying to figure out which one to be connected to, and having to switch back and forth.

Has anybody seen this before? Any ideas on how to fix it? It only happens in this one circumstance where I'm remoting to both a host and a guest, which live on the same physical machine, at the same time.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

This sounds more like an issue with your RDP client than VirtualBox. Since you can connect to one or both VirtualBox has pretty much done its thing.
Especially since you are using an external RDP client to native RDP servers and not vRDP of VirtualBox.

I have to agree with Perry. What does this have to do with VirtualBox? I suspect that you would have the same problem if you were connecting to two different physical machines in the same network by RDP.

I got the exact same issues today, connecting to a VB server via Microsoft Remote Desktop.
I got it working by going to the Microsoft Remote Desktop settings and deactivating the sharing of the clipboard.

Makes absolutely no sense but this is clearly related only to Microsoft Remote Desktop accessing a VB machine.
