Cannot Connect to internet with Ubuntu guest

Hi All,

I have not used my Ubuntu guest to connect to the internet for several months and now when I try to connect I an error that Firefox is in offline mode and cant connect. So I unchecked work in offline mode and still nothing. I tried every thing in this post viewtopic.php?f=6&t=44114 to no avail. I am currently set up with a NAT connection, but have also tried a Bridged connection with no luck

I am running VBox version 4.1.12 had before I updated was running 4.1.0 and Ubuntu version 10.04 LTS. I would really appreciate it if some one could help me trouble shoot this. Thank you.

Post the results of VBoxManage list bridgedifs from a command windows of the Windows host.
Note: you will need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage for this to work.

Also make sure that networking is enabled in the guest settings.

Your network is messed up. These must be in the same subnet but it looks like they are not. I would verify the settings in your hosts network settings. Then look at how the Bridgedif got changed to 192.168.0.*

Would I need a bridgedif if I am using the NAT connection?

Probably not but the issue of the reporting information shows some kind of serious configuration issue.
NAT should simply use the hosts connection.

Set the guest to use NAT in the guest settings and then boot the guest.
Once it is booted post the guests log file (as an attachment)
Also in the guest post the results if ifconfig -a and lspci

Do you want to Ubuntu log files or the VirtualBox?

Try this first and if it does not work then I need the log file of the guest (as an attachment)
In the guest edit the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules or you can delete the rules and Linux will configure it on the next boot

Guest log files: right click the guest in the VirtualBox main manager and select show log

Very unusual.
First do you still have eth0 and eth1 showing when you do an ifconfig -a in the guests terminal, and did you setup two adapters?

• From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use "" if the name has a space in it.
  
  Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Yes I still have eth0 and eth1 showing in the terminal. I don't recall if I set up two adapters, but I may have when trying to solve the problem.
