if I just restart a Windows XP guest upon restart my shared folders are NOT there! I don't have that problem when I choose 'Shut Down' instead of 'Restart'. it is just when I choose restart that I have this problem! even a restart for Windows updates has this issue! how can I fix this?

We would need to know how you have shared the folders. Was it normal or auto mount?
Have you read Shared folders in your users manual?

I've never cared that much for auto-mount myself. If it were my system I would delete the auto mount and just use the normal mount. If you want the shared folder to have a drive number then use the net use command in a command window. See example below.

Code: Select all

net use x: \\vboxsvr\sharename -p
Replace x with what ever (unused) drive letter you want and the sharename with the name you gave the share. Use simple names without spaces or special characters.
The -p at the end makes it persistent.
