Im thinking about my next setup.

Im thinking about a top level 27" iMac with 16GB ram. and 2 27" Thunderbolt displays.

The main focus off the system is to run multiple windows (xp or 7, doesnt really matter) installs at the same time.

So i have (for instance) one virtualmachine on my left monitor, on in the middle and one running on the right.

Is this possible? What are the downfalls and what are some good pointers to look for?

VMs don't use host hardware directly, so you are thinking about it wrong if you expect to assign one physical monitor to each VM. You can however run three VMs at once, provided you don't make each VM spec too high - and yes you could probably distribute the three VM windows across your physical displays. Ideally you should have a 4 core or better CPU.

I run an i7 iMac and yes you can run 3 guests at a time. However, I wouldn't count on any sort of performance if you are planning to run much software on all three guests concurrently. Maybe three XP guests would work out okay. You should be able to assign each guest to a separate monitor using Spaces.
