Relocating Program Files

Post by PJB »

Hi Everyone!
I've got what might be considered a strange question, but I thought I'd ask before I experiment around & mess things up:
I am using VirtualBox 4.1.10 r76795 on a MacBook Pro with Core2Duo & 2.2ghz processor. I operate under OS X 10.6.8. The hard drive is partitioned into two bootable "volumes".

Volume One is where I normally boot & it contains the VirtualBox application as well as a folder with files relating to each VM. Those files are the log files, the snapshot files & the files ending in .vbox & .vbox-prev
Volume Two has the actual VM's as .vdi images. It also is where the shared folders live, as well as blank floppy images, etc.

My question is- Can I move the folder with the snapshots, etc to the other partition (From Volume One to Volume Two)? What sort of things would I have to tell the application about the move? I can't find any details about how to go about this adventure.
The actual application would stay on the volume to which I normally boot & I would open the app while booted to Volume One.

Reason? The main volume is running low on disk space. I did all the normal OS X free up space routines. The drive is pared down to the minimum stuff I need it to have. This VM folder is the largest still on the volume, so moving it would be quite helpful. (I did use VirtualBox to eliminate as many snapshots as I felt comfortable removing.)

Thanks for any tips or cautions you're sharing!
Paul
