Installing Guest Additions freezes VB and never finishes

Post by vbox2use »

Hello,
Please help.
I'm running on MacOs Lion latest version with all updates installed on Mac Book Pro 15" 2011 year. I7 processor with 8 gig of ram.

I've installed latest Virtual Box 4.1.10 latest build 3 days ago. 64 bit.
I've installed Windows 7 64 bit .iso into VB . it works.

Now I'm trying to install guest additions so that I can run at higher resolution I'm using. (2560X 1440 ) and also be able to share directories on my mac to start installing extra software to the VB windows guest.

I can start Windows Guest and it starts properly.

However every time I click on : "install guest additions" the guest starts to hang. I see the "colorful" rotating wheel and nothing ever succeeds. I have to kill the Windows' Guest every time to get out of this situation.

Did anybody see this problem? I've spent quite a few hours trying to figure out what is wrong. I followed exact instructions on how to do it.

Any help is appreciated.

You might try upgrading to v4.1.12 in case you were affected by "the" bug.

thanks. I've upgraded to latest 4.1.12 but it did not help.

what did help was that I had to manually mount "guest additions.iso" to a CD/DVD drive. I actually copied the .iso to a USB stick and then mounted it as CD/DVD drive.

Then I went to the Windows Guest and clicked on mounted CD/DVD drive. then I clicked on the install program and it installed Guest Additions to my Windows Guest. and it works now.

Thanks for responding to me anyway.
