Installing Matlab

Hi anyone manage to install Matlab (version 5.3) on an xp virtual box on a Ubuntu host.

The cd autostarts, it begins to install, then all of a sudden the blue screen of death appears with some error messages. I don't have a chance to read the errors as the vb restarts windows right away. Upon restart there is a message from windows that it recovered from a critical error.

Thanks

Is there a demo version somewhere that shows the same problem?

I've just fixed a problem that sounds very similar to what's reported here (http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=495). If you're using SVN, you should sync and rebuild.

Thanks sandervl,

I made an ISO of the install disk and it installed fine from there. So far it seems to run ok (have't tried everything yet). Perhaps there is an issue with the cd-rom device connection. I had the same experience installing "SigmaStat". However other apps installed just fine from the cd. :?

I have Virtual Box 1.3.8. (is that what you mean by SVN?)

What do you mean by sync and rebuild? Pardon the newbie question.

It sounds like you're using the binary version, so that doesn't apply to you. He's saying to get the newest version of the source code from the subversion repository and recompile it. If your using the binary version and still having the problem then I'd suggest upgrading to the latest binary (1.4.0).

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my bad English, I'm French...

I have openSuse on my computer and would like to install Virtualbox to run Windows XP and then install Matlab v6 on it because I only have Matlab for Windows.

Have you ever tried that? Do you think I have memory enough to run Matlab correctly?

My computer :

Processor : Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2300 @ 1.66GHz 1 667,00 MHz
RAM : 500 MB
Hard Disk : 75 GB

Thanks

Sylvain

You definitely do not have enough ran to load XP on top of your host OS let alone run Mathlab. Have you tried Wine?

Hi TerryE

Thanks for your help.

That's what I feared. I never used Wine but I'll try it.
I'm sure that Wine will be OK for a French guy like me :D
