USB modem not attachable

Hi
Using lattest VB on Mac OS 10.7 with a Win 7 - 32bits guest.
Things are working ok but I would need to use a 3G modem from within the VM. It is not proposed as an attachable device (Huawai modem below, grayed out):

I have the USB 2 extensions installed an other USB devices are working fine.
Any idea ?
I might have it working from the Mac but can't seem to route traffic to it in a bridged setup or NAT setup.
Well if anyone has managed to have this working I would be most grateful for any pointer / instruction :=)
FWIW the same hardware is being recognized by VMware Fusion...
