I'm trying to install a VM on an extra 1 TB HD inside my Intel Mac running Lion. Virtual Box itself installed without problems on my main HD running Lion.
When I try to create a VM on the extra HD (currently blank) the choice of HD in Virtual Box remains greyed out and I can't progress.
Would greatly appreciate any thoughts; thank you in advance.

Re: Virtual Box on extra HD
Set the default path for new VMs in File|Preferences|General|Default Machine Folder.

Mpack,
Thank you for your help. I successfully installed this file on a VM on my extra HD:

Double checking as I have this same question -- I understand changing /File/Preferences/ for Default Machine Folder to point to an external drive, but will that only affect new VMs? It won't screw anything up with existing VMs?

Re: Virtual Box on extra HD
The setting only affects where new VMs will be created (whether by "New" or "Clone"). It doesn't affect VMs which already exist, and it doesn't stop Machine|Add from registering a .vbox file located anywhere.
