It is possible but by the time you resolve all the issues you could install it for real.

It means that the physical hardware is not going to match the virtual hardware, plus you will need to authenticate it again.
Linux is more tolerant then Windows in this regard but it still applies that converting will cause you to install the proper drivers.

Like I said it is possible, but you will need to work out the drivers and authentication.

Search Google with the v2p or virtual to physical and you can see what I am talking about.

Hi, Perryg

If the virtual machine will be make it physical on the same machine where was installed in virtual mode.

Virtual means simulated hardware, and is different from physical. Migration between the two (in either direction) is effectively between two PCs. Two very different PCs.

Thanks mpack and Perryg.

A better question is, is it possible to convert a physical machine to a VM as opposed to starting from scratch?

Why is that a better question? In fact it's the same question. As far as XP is concerned, it's being migrated from one type of motherboard to another. The significance of one, both, or neither of these motherboards being virtual, and what direction we are migrating in, only has signficance in the head of the person doing the work. XP doesn't care. All it knows is whether the hardware is the same or different than before.

Having said that, VirtualBox users are often concerned about the mechanics of physical to virtual migration. Use Google to search for "P2V site:forums.virtualbox.org".

So you would have to start from scratch and THEN migrate? How does that work?

If that is the meaning you extracted from my previous words then I see little point in adding more words.
