How do I add a proxy to virtual box?
I'd like to change my IP while surfing through my virtual OS.
I've tried going to-->
>Virtual Box Manager
>File
>Preferences
>Proxy
>I'll change the ip, and close
>Then I'll click on the OS
>click settings
>Network
>I've tried selecting NAT and Bridged, but no matter what I do my ip remains the same as the host when Im surfing inside ubuntu.
How do I change my ip inside ubuntu...(the easy way) (:

Re: How do I add a proxy to VirtualBox?
I think you misunderstand what the proxy in preference is for. It is used to allow VirtualBox to update itself if you are behind a proxy.
Resetting a dhcp lease in Linux you run dhclient in a terminal and Windows you use ipconfig /renew in a command window.
Not sure if that is what you really want but there it is.
Perhaps if you could explain this a little better?I'd like to change my IP while surfing through my virtual OS.

Thanks Perrys, but I'd need more of an explanation due to my inferior brain.

I read this thread above, and figured I could hide my ip with a proxy while in virtual box. If I could just add a proxy to firefox inside VB I'd be happy, but I'm not finding any proxy options inside the Ubuntu/Firefox to change.
MY GOAL--->Is there a noob explanation for hiding my ip while I'm surfing on firefox, inside ubuntu?

Not with VirtualBox. You can create your own proxy (just another guest) but the proxy address will show.
Type hide my ip in google and use ons of the hide my ip services.

Ya, I guess I'd just have to use a vpn or vps and change the ip whenever I need it changed in the virtual machine.
Thanks bud
