I'm running Backtrack on Ubuntu in a Virtual Machine hosted on a Max OS X. Can I expand the screen resolution options?

This should help Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions
Use the Debian/Ubuntu tips.

I'm confused. The VM is running on Mac. Why would I need to run the Guest Additions for an Ubuntu -host-?

Question: Where do you think Guest Additions are installed?

Just to keep the confusion down and to point you in the right direction, "Guest Additions are designed to be installed inside a virtual machine after the guest operating system has been installed. They consist of device drivers and system applications that optimize the guest operating system for better performance and usability." That quote is from the manual. One of the things it does for you is give better video support in the guest including screen resolution options.

For more details please read the User Manual, Chapter 4, Guest Additions. For actual instructions on how to install the guest additions follow the link Perryg provided.

PerryG evidently has zero experience with Backtrack.

Oracle yet again shows its utter lack of programming prowess by being unable to even keep up with Parallels, which is what I'm switching to (happily paying 80 bucks) in order to run this distribution virtually.

@pookhead,

Actually I have quite a bit of experience with BackTrack. Evidently more than you since I do not have an issue with using it.
Troll at the parallel site my friend, you will find them more to your liking.

Just to prove a point.

I'm often taken aback by messages like this. Someone goes through the OSSO signup process in order to tell us (in their very first message) that we suck and they won't be back. Why do they imagine we would care? Is it the numerous wise contributions they've been making to this site? Is it the great piles of dosh they would have contributed? Really, someone please tell me what exactly are we expected to miss?
