Uh, no - not the log. I meant details of the crash: a description of it, error message, error code, fault address, that sort of thing - maybe just one screenshot showing all of that.
When I got a crash it was Win98 itself which was crashing, not the VM (i.e. not the VBox app running on the host), hence I don't expect the log to show much. I have not had it crash with VT-x enabled, however I only keep Win98 around for testing things like this and for novelty value, I don't actually use it for anything so am not likely to encounter your crash.
In any case you seem to have posted the log of the wrong VM. It seems to be the log of a VM called "Windows XP".

Ok!

However, I copied the log from Windows 98 folder.
When I launch the application in Windows 98 (which previously worked), it just shows a black window, nothing else. I guess that is not of much help, though.
Other applications integrated in Windows 98, for example the games, work.
Well, it's not that I have absolutely Windows 98 to work, but, from the other posts here, it seems there are some issues with the latest release of VirtualBox.

So far you have posted log files from Backtrack and Windows xp. Do you really have Windows 98 installed?
Well, it's not that I have absolutely Windows 98 to work,
Can you clear this up as well?

Sure I have!
Ok, to avoid any mistake (!!!), I deleted all the logs, so now this is the Windows 98 log without any doubt.
What I meant is that I installed Windows 98 only "for fun"; even if I have a few applications which work only with it, I can survive without them.

Code: Select all
VirtualBox 4.1.10 r76836 win.x86 (Mar 14 2012 18:56:08) release log
00:00:00.405 Installed Extension Packs:
00:00:00.405 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 4.1.8 r75467; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP)
I have seen mismatched VBox version and ExtPack version cause strange things.

Yes, that's because in short that log is from a computer of mine in which I've just upgraded only VirtualBox.
In my main computer, which I'm using now, I downgraded to VirtualBox 4.1.8. Previously, I tried on this computer with VirtualBox and Extension Pack both 4.1.10 and had the same problem.
By the way, Extension Pack can't be installed in Windows 98, right?

The Extension Pack will be installed on the host, not on the guest.

What's the problem?
I made several attempts on different computers to be sure the problem was not computer-dependent.
As I said, from posts of other users, it seems to be a VirtualBox issue.
By the way, I'm pretty sure the logs came from Windows 98 folder, I don't think I'm so dumb!

Hi everybody and especially M. Wolf !
Sorry for bothering you from so far as Rodrigues Island in the Indian Ocean !
I just purchased win98 SE and I've got a laptop running with windods 7 home edition.
So I want to run win 98 under windows 7 .
I made my win 98 image, my virtual floppy drive and tried to create a virtual machine .
But the point is that windows DOES NOT boot at all !
(I forgot to mention that I've got VM VIRTUAL BOX 4.2.4r81684)
I've got the message " unable to boot from floppy"
So VM tries to boot form the virtual HDD but VM says " unable to boot form the hard disk "!
I copied the WIN98 image file on NERO so I tried again and again : NUTS !
PLEASE HELP ME !
Caron

I don't know what you mean by "Windows 98 image file". To install Win98SE you need a bootable Win98SE Setup CD (*). Be sure it isn't an evaluation CD, service pack CD or anything like that. An ISO image of the bootable CD is even better: create the VM, mount the ISO as a virtual CD (VM settings|Storage) then start the VM. See the "Howto" area for specific advice on getting best performance from a Win98 VM.
(*) Not all Win98 Setup CDs were bootable. In that case you have to install another OS first, such as DOS, with CD drivers, so you can access the CD and run setup.exe manually. Likewise you could boot that VM from a boot floppy, access the CD and run the installer.

This sounds more like an OS error than a VBox issue.
