Scanner in Windows guest

Hi. Have searched through forums and hours on Google but unable to find any answer to this question...

I have MAC OSX Lion (latest) running the latest version of VirtualBox (updated only yesterday).

I have a Kodak i1220 document scanner which I am trying to use in the Windows XP (x86) guest I have setup.

The Kodak scanner is not compatible with MAC OS (there is no driver for it on the manufacturer's website).
However, when I plug it into my MacBook Pro (late-2011) the USB device is recognised and it does appear within VirtualBox under the 'USB Devices' menu.
I can even add it as a USB 2.0 filter and all of the information is filled out correctly.

However, when I start the guest machine, I can never access the scanner. It never recognises the fact that the scanner is even there. If I try to re-mount it, I get the age-old error of 'the device is currently busy with another request'.

What I would like to know is, am I trying to achieve the impossible here? Or, has anyone else managed to get a Windows compatible scanner working within a Windows virtualbox guest whilst using a MAC OS host?

Many thanks in advance.

Try doing it in this sequence. Unplug the scanner from the USB port. Start up your VirtualBox VM, wait until XP is showing the desktop and the cursor is no longer the hourglass and then plug the scanner into the USB port and see if XP can grab it before the host sees it.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this sequence does not work either. Perhaps I'll have to see if I can get hold of a scanner which is MAC-compatible to give that a try, unless there are any further suggestions...?
