VirtualBox-4.1.10-76795-OSX.dmg reports "installation failed

Post by sonicpainter »

I tried reinstalling for the new VBox today and after running the installer named in the post title, I got an error dialogue stating that the installation had failed and that I needed to contact the distributor. Unfortunately I don't have much more detail. I"m on a late 08 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo macbook 13" with OS X 10.6.8 and 4GB RAM.

Same issue here. Downloaded the update, ran the instal, ended with an error message. I've attached an image of the error.
Running MacOS 10.6.8
iMac 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB Ram
>13GB Available HD

Obviously I cannot presently launch the existing version of Virtual Box on my system.

I'm just confirming the consistency. That's exactly the screen I got.

Installed fine on my 10.7.3 Lion.

Before installing, I uninstalled the previous: VirtualBox_Uninstall.tool selection of the .dmg

I tried running the uninstall.tool and it didn't work for me. I uninstalled Vbox by simply deleting it from the Applications folder, which didn't work. Then I tried running the uninstall.tool again and still no love. :\

I'm downloading it again (3rd time) but the filename is the same, so I don't think I'm getting a new package.

I had the same problem, and with previous version. But running the uninstaller a few times, to make sure everything was removed from a previous install appears to be the trick.

Here's the post/thread for the earlier problem - viewtopic.php?f=8&t=46856

You may need to install a known good earlier version and uninstall that.

Good luck!

So, dumb question. After uninstalling & installing VB again, will I have to reinstall Windows and my Windows apps again?

Thanks!

No. VMs are not affected by that.

Hi guys,

Last night, on Mountain Lin 10.8.1, installing 4.1.22 over my copy of 4.1.20 it failed at the last step, suggesting I contact the software manufacturer.

I therefore uninstalled the current version, where the Terminal window told me to restart as there were instances of classes,or something like that.

After restarting, I successfully installed 4.1.22 and loaded the extension pack.

So maybe the installation problem has not been fixed (completely) for Lion/Mountain Lion users.

Regards

Ted
