A critical error has occured

While trying to install a Windows XP SP3 Guest OS I get the message "A critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has stopped". This happens very early in the boot before I can even begin to install the OS. I am able to install other Windows guests OK, just not this one.

I am running on a Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 host. I have also attached the vbox.log file

Was finally able to get it to do the install by un-checking the "Enable VT-x/AMD-v" option. I am running a Intel Core i7-920 which does support VT-x so is this expected or is there a known issue with this setting and a Windows XP guest? I have this option enabled on other Windows guests and it works fine.

You should check that VT-x is enabled in your hosts BIOS. It isn't enough that the CPU supports it.

That said, turning VT-x on should do no harm, it's lack usually causes an error in the log, not a crash. I see in the log that the "Guru Meditation" occurs immediately after the VM tries boot from CD, so you could try unmounting the CD.
