problem to start XP guest on Ubuntu Dapper host

Post by i1102828 »

I am newbie in Linux. Ubuntu Dapper (kernel 2.6.15-51-386) is the host. VBox 1.5.6-28266_Ubuntu is installed from binaries via Synaptic Package Manager
and earlier everything worked. Probably (?!), after several upgrades of some applications I am not able to start XP guest. The message is:
-------------------------
VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Re-setup the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root.
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).
Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}
-------------------------
I've change permission for /dev/vboxdrv to 777, logged out and logged in - the same message. After running /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
the same story, the content of /var/log/vbox-install.log is:
------------------------
Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel.
Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again.. Stop.
-----------------------
How and where I have to perform this command, I don't know. Any help?
