Code: Select all
00:00:05.679 Installed Extension Packs:
00:00:05.679 None installed!
How to install Extension Pack
Code: Select all
00:00:05.702 File system of 'F:\Guest3-XP.vhd' is ntfs
Any reason for not choosing the default VDI?
You say that you created one Win xp already, was it from the same install CD?
Can you post a guest log file from the working XP install?

Not sure what you mean when you say default VDI.
if you mean default hard drive, i installed it on a redundent drive as my main hard drive is a 64gig SSD so not much space and i'm new to virtualbox so wanted to keep it seperate.
yes i am using the same XP disc, but that said earlier i managed to install 2 guest XP's and the same error occured when i tried to install a copy of win 7 ultimate. it seems it is the 3rd 'guest' whatever the os doesn't seem to work.
i have just created a clone copy of one of the xp guests, so now i have 1 x guest vista 1 x guest xp and 1 x clone xp. will this do the same thing??

No, Perry means that the default virtual image format is VDI, but you chose VHD, an inferior non-native format. We are both curious as to why.
Personally, I don't know why VirtualBox even asks the question, since it only gives newbies an extra opportunity to get something wrong, and I can't really think of a worthwhile upside.

Well it is not because it is the third guest, I have over 50 installed on this PC alone.
The error is a ver (version) error of some kind. Is the CD you are using a full retail version? Where did you get it?

Both my copies of XP & 7 are original copies from Software4Students, although the Xp is a bit scratched.
This course that i am doing is using an old version of virtual box (3.1.4), so i downloded a copy of that from old version, and so far it is working.
Hopefully once i get into it a bit more i will hopefully get to grips with it and work out the problem
MANY thanks for your help
