I updated to version 4.1.10 and when I tried to start an XP VM in Safe Mode the VM crashed. This happend with two different XP VMs. I started the VMs via the GUI.
When I shut down the GUI and started the VMs directly via double click on the .vbox file, I was able to start the VMs in safe mode and install the Guest Additions.

Logs are attached.

Can you verify that this is exactly what you did and that it does start the guest?

Yes, I can verify that that is what I did and it does start the guest, on my XP laptop.
By the way, I can start my VMs via the GUI and they will run normally. It is only after starting the VMs and pressing F8 to go into safe mode that the VMs crash.

Bug can be closed. Vista guests and Aero works again with 4.1.10.

Why, so it does! (also on an XP host). Is this new? I thought that double clicking the .vbox file only added the VM to the manager UI.

Incidentally, I've installed 4.1.10 at home and at work (both XP Pro SP3), and no crashes when running VMs from the UI. Perhaps check for corruption of VirtualBox.xml? (I would rename for backup purposes, start VBox and add back the VMs).

4.1.10 seems OK so far, but it downloaded the new extension pack (after getting permission) and attempted to install and failed. The error was
Failed to open the Extension Pack C:/Documents and Settings/wpeckham/.VirtualBox/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.10.vbox-extpack.

RTFileOpen('C:/Documents and Settings/wpeckham/.VirtualBox/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.10.vbox-extpack::SHA-256=e1ddcbb62de299b67350a4c9f3425b1f71aca490611891fd07e98f15a890d09f',,) failed with VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER

This on WinXP-Pro 32_bit that has been running VBOX since about version 3.2, but NOT always with extensions. I started adding extensions in version 4.1.6 and updated 4.1.8 without issues.
---
I am going to do the extension download using the web browser and see if installing that way also fails.
CONFIRMED: downloading and installing by clicking on the file worked flawlessly.

No, please install it manually. I've replaced the Windows build, that problem is now fixed (the update notification will point to the correct package.

I have trouble installing the extension pack:
Failed to install the Extension Pack C:/2/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.10-76795.vbox-extpack.

The installer failed with exit code 1: VBoxExtPackHelperApp.exe: error: Failed to rename the temporary directory to the final one: VERR_ACCESS_DENIED ('C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox/ExtensionPacks/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-_-inst-5436' -> 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox/ExtensionPacks/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack')

rcExit=1.

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ExtPackManager
Interface: IExtPackManager {3295e6ce-b051-47b2-9514-2c588bfe7554}
I tried first upgrading it by running "Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.10-76795.vbox-extpack" after VirtualBox has been upgraded to the latest version, and received this error.

Then I uninstalled VirtualBox completely, installed it again, and I am still getting the same error when trying to install the extension pack.

I even disabled UAC on my Windows 7 x64, and tried to run VirtualBox with admin privileges and choosing to install the extensions thorough a menu. Still the result is the same.

EDIT: My antivirus was silently blocking installation of the extension pack. Sorry for the false alarm, I got the idea for trying to disable my antivirus just now.

It appears that the OS X installer for 4.1.10 isn't packaged correctly. Looks like this was mentioned in the OS X section of this forum but the thread was closed without an answer. Any update on when a corrected version of the installer will be made available?

No problem here on two different Macs.

You still can't get to the mini-toolbar in full screen unless you lower the screen resolution or turn off Aero. :cry:
