Virtual machine won't startup after host reboot

Post by lazlokovac »

Hello,

I have reinstalled VB several times now, and there is always the same problem.

I install Windows XP and everything goes smoothly, until I restart my Mac and then I cannot start the machine again. All I get is these two messages:

"The virtual machine 'windows' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1.
Código Resultado: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Componente: Machine
Interfaz: IMachine {5eaa9319-62fc-4b0a-843c-0cb1940f8a91}"

"Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)
Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully."

I already experienced a similar problem last year when getting 2 similar messages, but I solved it thanks to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19651. Honestly, I do not know if these two issues are even related or something.

Could anyone help me on this?

Thanks.

I am not a Mac user, but it looks typical of the kind of problems you get if an application is installed in user mode - and the installer makes changes to a "system folder" in a fussy host OS. On next reboot the folder is restored to its "correct" state. Did you try doing what that other thread says, i.e. log in in Admin mode, and then copy "VBoxDrv.kext" into System/Library/Extensions?

I would start by installing VBox again, with admin rights for the installer. Before rebooting I would grab a copy of that "VBoxDrv.kext" file, then reboot and test.

Hello,

Thanks for your answer.

I am always logged in Admin mode.

I had the problem described in that thread last year, and solved it after doing what is said there.

I've done several times that troubleshooting process now, but it's been unsuccessful. This seems to be a different issue.
