[solved] missing IPA characters in Windows guest

Post by blue111 »

hello

My Windows guest doesn't display IPA characters [see attached screenshot]. I've spent two hours googling and couldn't find any solutions. The original file is UTF-8 (attached). Maybe it is solely a Windows problem?

It can't be a VirtualBox problem regardless - VirtualBox can't affect how a guest renders fonts. The solution would be choosing the correct font in the guest app.

Hello. That's correct. I as a Linux user did not expect the almighty M$ to provide its users with stock fonts with limited characters sets. Changing the default font to Lucida Sans Unicode solved the problem.

No font has an unlimited character set - it's all a matter of degree. You use a font which is known to be good for the target application.
