Create Guest from Physical Machine???

Post by meburdick »

I'm wondering what options there are to migrate an existing, physical installation to a guest OS. There are third-party, commercial products that can do this sort of thing and push the content directly to destinations like VMware, but I'm looking for something that's Open Source / Free for use with VirtualBox.

If there are products and/or tutorials of how to convert my existing, physical installations into VB Guests, I'm very interested in knowing about them!

Thanks in advance.

It would help if we knew what the guest was, as different operating systems have different problems.

I'll take references for any...

I need to clone Windows (XP Pro and 7 Pro), SLES, Mac OS X, and maybe even Netware.

The process is called "P2V". Google for "P2V site:forums.virtualbox.org" and you should get plenty of hits. Internal search doesn't work with three letter words.
