I just cloned a machine, was given a message that it would take six hours ( 20GB .vdi file). At this point, my VM Manager is blocked. I cannot go launch another VM, clone another VM, change the settings on another VM, add another VM nada.

In this multi-threaded, how do I request a feature such that when a VM is cloned or in process that it forks off another process so the VM Manager can still be used and other VM's (not involved in the cloning) can be used?

I doubt that it's blocked, it's probably just that all the disk bandwidth is being used. Also the clone time estimates in VBox tend to be wildly off at the beginning, it should settle down eventually. Cloning shouldn't really take 6 hours unless the VDI is humungous, or the host hard disk is dreadfully slow - or both.

I have a 7200 RPM drive and think the .vdi file was either 20GB or 40GB but not more. I could not use the manager or launch any other VM's or change settings or continue to work there. If it forked the process off the VM Manager would be immediately responsive.
