Virtual Box Crash when shut down

Post by DaveTeu »

I've recently upgraded to the latest version of vb, and yesterday was the first time i shut it down.

I dnd't notice anything when they shut down but after trying a few times, i notice it crashed when shutting down and now it's showing as aborted on my virtual box terminal.

Im using mac os lion.

The clone was just created, I'm not an expert but i thought maybe cloning will help, but it doesn't.

Ever since the vb crashed, some of my softwares were corrupted on windows 7, and my USB have problem installing. Even after detecting and selecting the USB device, windows 7 keep saying unknown device.

I've tried the following steps.
Unplug USB
Uninstall Driver
Reinstall Driver
Replug USB

But it still says unknown. :( Clearing filter doesn't help.

WHy does it keep crashing and not shutting down properly?

Now tried to add filter, remove all the fields in filter and start the windows again,

and immediately this came up

FAILED TO ATTACHED THE USB DEVICE <DEVICE NAME> to the virtual machine VIRTUAL WINDOWS 7.

Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error: VERR_READ_ERROR)

hope someone can help me :)

According to the log you have approximately 2GB available memory, and you are assigning 2GB to the VM. I would try giving the VM 1GB.

I have 8gb of ram on my Mac and i initially have vb 1gb. I only started giving it 2gb after all the crashes, checking to make sure it's not short of memory. Isn't more memory better?

Not if your host doesn't have it to give. Your log file is clear on this point.

Re the crashes: try to give specific error messages etc. The log you provided is not useful for diagnosing the crash because the log shows this session seems to have powered down normally, at user request, no indication of any problem on the way to VM termination.

This is what mpack was referring to. You are not leaving enough memory for the host portion of VirtualBox to work.

00:00:00.698 Host RAM: 8192MB RAM, available: 2186MB
00:00:00.745 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000080000000 (2,147,483,648)

I suspect this to be an issue as well. You need to update the guest additions to match the version of VirtualBox.

VirtualBox 4.1.8 r75467 darwin.amd64 (Dec 19 2011 13:40:28) release log
Guest Additions information report: Version 3.2.6 r63112 '3.2.6'
