Logitech quickcam pro for notebook

Post by lucaghera »

Hi all,

I'm trying to use my Logitech quickcam pro for notebook under my Ubuntu 11.10 Virtual machine.

The webcam work great under OsX with skype.
However when I try to connect it to the virtual machine it doesn't work.
I tried to add a filter and also to connect the device manually by using Devices->USB Devices->Logitech camera [0008].

If I do it from the USB devices menu twice it returns me the following error:

Code: Select all

Failed to attach the USB device Logitech Camera [0008] to the virtual machine UbuntuRobotics.

USB device 'Logitech Camera' with UUID {032404e1-ceb1-4b82-b8d1-b5c9a9293cdc} is busy with a previous request. Please try again later.

Result Code: NS_ERROR_INVALID_ARG (0x80070057)
Component: HostUSBDevice
Interface: IHostUSBDevice {173b4b44-d268-4334-a00d-b6521c9a740a}
Callee: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb}
How to fix it?
Thanks!

"Busy with a previous request" means that the host has ownership of that device. Try plugging it in after the VM has started.

Caveat: you can never be sure that a randomly selected WebCam will work in a VM. It depends on whether the accompanying software requires DirectX or not (likely yes), and if so which version. Obviously to stand any chance at all of working, a USB webcam will require that you have the extension pack and guest additions both installed.
