Guest XP unable to see network on Mac OS 10.7.3 host

Post by Lost in the Box »

I have MacbookPro running OS 10.7.3.

Virtual box 4.1.8 installed, with Windows XP as guest OS.

Windows runs, but has no network connection. How do I get Windows to see out to the www?

Thanks

Not enough information to be able to help.
Forum Posting Guideline
Please provide the network settings, NAT, bridged,Host-only, Etc. and whether you have a router in your LAN.

Thanks. I'll try, but I'm a novice so if I apologize if I fail to provide the right answer:

network settings: I can't see any because Windows says there are "no clients connected"

NAT: Adapter 1:PCnet-FAST III (NAT)

I see 'Bridged", "Host-only" and others under the "NAT" pull down menu - they are not selected.

LAN is set to automatically detect settings and as far as I know doesn't have a router in it. I do use a Verizon wireless router for my network.

Not sure what else you need to know?

Thanks again.

NAT, which is the default setting, should just work without any intervention from you. If the guest is set to get its network config automatically it should get an IP from NAT and share the host's network connection.

How familiar are you with XP? What do you see if you go to Control Panel | Network Connections? Exactly what happens if you open the browser and try to open a web page?

Hi

Network connections produces: "Incoming connections no client connected"

Opening IE: "The page cannot be displayed" followed by all of the usual advice to check network connections

Thanks

What is an "incoming connection"? Have you installed dial-up networking inside the guest, instead of LAN networking? Also the user of the word "client" is something I would want to check out if it were me. You can't run client/server type software behind a NAT connection, at least not unless you mess with port forwarding (and maybe not even then).

I'm not sure what it means by "Incoming Connection".

I don't know why it is talking about clients, and don't know how to investigate this.

when I try to set up a network, I get the error message "Windows cannot detect network hardware". Yet my host MacbookPro has all hardware installed and functioning. It seems Windows can't see outside Virtual Box.

I do not have dial up set up. LAN is set to automatically detect settings.
