Windows XP Full/Seamless mode fails

I've been running VB successfully for years under OSX 10.6.x with Windows XP SP3 (32 bit). Current setup with VB 4.1.8 with Guest Additions installed works fine in Scale Mode, but not in Full Screen or Seamless mode. In Full Screen mode I see VB menu items, and the entire screen is black. Windows is still running, as I see a greyscale image of the desktop while attempting to take a snapshot. In Seamless mode, I see a black screen. At this point, all I can do is choose ACPI Shutdown and Windows shuts down normally. On restart, Scale Mode works fine and Windows starts normally (no Windows shutdown error messages). No change with VB restart or computer restart.

What happens if you disable the 3D/2D in the guest settings?
When did this first appear? Was it as soon as you upgraded VirtualBox? If not any other programs installed on the host or the guest?

Current VB settings:
2D acceleration is enabled, 3D acceleration is disabled. VRAM set to 64 MB.

Recently installed software under Windows: Steam client. Had to fiddle with mouse settings in VB to get some old games working (Jewel Quest 1, 2 and 3). Mouse tracking not working right until I switched to Scale mode. Games work fine now.

Problem with Full Screen/Seamless mode probably occurred with the Steam client install under Windows.

No other recent software changes in OSX or Windows

Computer is a MacMini Core2Duo 1.83 GHz with 2 GB RAM and integrated GMA950 graphics

Ok, launched VB again, and Full Screen mode is now working No changes were made at all. Steam is working also.
