BSOD after migrating Window XP to new Machine

I have an instance of Windows XP set up in VB (version 4.1.8) that, due to its small size, I want to copy to a new, larger machine. I created a new VM (making sure to set the IDE type controller to PIIX3), and attached it to the original instance as a slave. I then downloaded and ran Acronis Easy Migrator on the original machine, and migrated everything over to the new drive. As it should have, the old drive restarted, performed the migration, and let me know when it was completed. When I tried starting the new drive, however, I got the infamous Blue Screen of Death, with the message:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

and later:

Technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFAF4F528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000

This happens no matter what mode I start in. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Thanks,
Peter

If the main issue is to enlarge the drive you can use VBoxManage modifyhd (--resize) to do this and then use Gparted to increase the primary partition to include the new space.
See VBoxManage in your VirtualBox users guide.

Did you check all the other settings in your new VM and make sure they were the same as the old?

The OPs chose the wrong strategy - no point in discussing how to make it work. Better to go with Perry's suggestion, provided snapshots have not been used. Otherwise I would use the VM cloning feature and apply Perry's suggestion to the clone.

The modifyhd/GParted solution worked perfectly.

Thanks!
