AMD-V is disabled VERR_SVN_DISABLED

Hi - I'm new hear and I have just started with VBOX. My test rum on a 32-bit system was great.

Now I'm trying to get a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit guest system to run on a Windows 7 64-bit.

By starting the VM to start installing the OS (2008) I'm getting the following error message:

AMD-V is disabled (VERR-SVM_DISABLED).

I have am AMD A6-3600 APU (in my HP P6-2027.de). I search the web to see if my AMD does support the AMD-V function - and I found a pages that confired that he does --> cpu-world

In the bios itself there is no option to activate or deactivate the function - so I think it must be on by default.

I tried also to deactivate it in the VBOX - but it changed it automatic back (enabled).

So what do I need to do to get the 2008 server running with VBOX?

PS: I'm using BVOX 4.1.8

Thank you in advance

If its not in the bios, then its not supported. Look for a option like vm, pacifica or secure vm or something like that. Or look for a bios update. We cant help you further.

I checked the bios (once again) and there is no option to change anything.

I checked also the HP support for a newer bios version - but there is also non.

What means for the moment it looks like that I can't change the bios part.

What are the other option? Hpw can I stop VBOX to activate the function???

Is there a reg-key or something else???

Read the faq. Without vt no 64 bit guests.

OK.

Question - why does VBOX know/think that AMD-V is active or not?

Currently it looks like that it is offering the option to install 64-bit systems - but at the time you want to install the OS you are getting the ERROR.

That is not straight forwart to me.

How about the KB --> VBOX ticket/5639

It it a workaround? And YES - where do I need to do the modification?

The fact that you see this error message indicates that the processor is VT-x/AMD-v aware. The disabled indicates it is not turned on in the system bios.
If you do not have the ability to turn this on in your bios the machine will not be able to run 64-bit guests.

You can contact HP support and verify this or ask how to enable it on your PC.

I checked the bios setting about 3 time - and could find it.

After your advice I cecked it again - but this time also the section that I excluded the last times (Security).

And in the last Security section (Syszem Security) - I FOUND IT.

And now it works :D

To find the option in the bios cost me ages - and it looks liek lost most of my hears.

Thank you pointing me in the right direction.

PS: I will not ask why HP put virtualisation under the Security section :D

Wish you all a good weekend.

FIXED

Not a surprise that HP are inconsistent in where they locate the SVM configuration. On my Pavilion dv6 this is under system configuration.

you can disable this option in the VM program you are using. when you add a new OS, go to settings in the VM prog - see attached

@funjunkie: vt-x is required to run 64-bit guests. So turning the option off achieves nothing if your goal was to get a 64bit guest running - as the OP clearly said he was doing.
