Twain scanner in Virtual Box

Hello all,

Having recently replaced my old XP laptop with a win 7/64 one, i am unable to use my expensive Canon 9900F scanner. Canon refuses to help.No Win 7/64 drivers now or ever. Buy a new one.

I have now installed Virtual Box and am running XP in it. Works a treat, so I thought I'd try to set up the scanner in the VB XP environment as well.

Installation of the driver appeared to go well, there were no error massages. But when I attempt to attach the scanner through the Devices->USB Devices menu it doesn't work and I get nowhere. Apparently there is no useable Twain driver. An error window says:

Failed to attach the USB device Canon Scanner [0301] to the virtual machine WinXP.

USB device 'Canon Scanner' with UUID {5f4ae051-1b8e-47c6-8d65-2c70af9effd3} is busy with a previous request. Please try again later.

Result Code: E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057)
Component: HostUSBDevice
Interface: IHostUSBDevice {173b4b44-d268-4334-a00d-b6521c9a740a}
Callee: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb}

Obviously this is all Chinese to me. I am slowly but surely getting desperate. Is there a way to get my scanner working again in VB XP (or in any other way), or should I just take my loss and buy a new one (and not a Canon this time)?

Any advice will be most gratefully received!

Extension Pack on the Host is installed?!

Have you tried USB Filters?

Anyway: Buying a new scanner will be the best solution. Or try installing linux via dual boot.

Thanks for the reply, Stefan.

The Guest Additions have been installed and are active. As for USB filters, I haven't come across those yet. Where do i find them, please?

The root of the problem appears to be that the driver will not install in the virtual XP machine. Linux would be a good idea, but the installer for the Twain drivers and ScanGear (which I need to make scanning slides and negatives easier) is for Win (32 bit) only.

As you say, a new scanner (any brand but Canon) will probably be the best solution. Or a cheap old XP laptop just to run the scanner.

Guest Additions != Extension Pack.

The Extension Pack must be installed on the host to get USB 2 in the guest.

I had a look at the sane homepage. Was a bad idea, linux does not support your model.
