Problem with crashing 3D game and vboxoglcrutil.dll

Hello:
I've been trying to get Everquest II running in VirtualBox 4.1.8, however the game crashes while loading. In the event log it shows the crash and says the faulting module name is "vboxoglcrutil.dll". My guest OS is Win XP SP3 32-bit, running on VirtualBox 4.1.8 on a 32-bit Fedora 16 Linux PC. I have gone through the steps to enable 3D for the virtual graphics adapter, and installed the extensions in XP safe mode. I also installed DirectX 9.0c in the XP guest and ran the tests with dxdiag.exe where DirectX8 and DirectX9 tests passed fine (even though VirtualBox pops up with a window saying that the guest is set to 16-bit mode graphics, even though I have verified that XP is set to 32-bit graphics). I am not familiar with this game yet but am assuming the crash is happening when it is trying to start the game itself. The main splash screen works fine and it starts to load, but crashes when the game gets to "Adding character to game world". But the fact that it is showing "vboxoglcrutil.dll" tells me it could be something with the virtual display adapter for VirtualBox. I'm at a loss as to how I can troubleshoot this further.
Please help, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
