I am running virtual box 3.2.8 on Centos 5.3 and I want to upgrade to Virtual Box 4.1.8. I have a window7 guest running.
Can I upgrade easily or will my window 7 guest be deleted?
Thanks in advance.

Tell me any program deleting user infos at upgrade. It it exists, i dont want to use it.
So in your case the guest with its configuration is not deleted.

When you install or upgrade VirtualBox, only the contents of the program folder tree is replaced. This principally replaces the program executables, the documentation files (PDF and F1 help), and the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso file.
Your VM is not stored in the program folder and hence is not directly affected. Based on past problems however, it is wise however to shut down (not suspend) all VMs prior to the upgrade, and ensure that the old VBoxGuestAddditions.iso is not mounted in any VM.

It is noted in the
VirtualBox FAQ for how to perform an upgrade like that on Linux.
