Windows 2k8 VDI different on different hosts

Home System:
Host OS windows 7 Professional SP1
Guest OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
Virtualbox version: 4.0.4

Workstation at work:
Host OS Windows 7 professional SP1
Guest OS: (same as above, same VDI file)
Virtualbox version: 4.1.8

I am moving my vdi image between machines at work and at home.
I installed a virus scanner last night and it ran all night. Next morning
I took the vdi file to work since it's on external storage. When i tried to login
at the workstation pc the password I had didn't work. When I worked around that
I got in and realize my pc has different files, different setup on my sharepoint,
and was missing the virus scanner I installed the previous night.
I was actually double checking that I was using the same VDI file and I was.
My guess is that it has something to do with the win2k8 vdi being a domain controller,
and my network at work may not allow domain controllers. The network at work
never really worked actually even though it said it was connected to the internet
I couldn't open any websites. I really have no idea what could be the culprit here, I'd like
to just login to the VM and get my usual set up like it was before , I don't care if networking
doesn't work.
Would anyone know why my VM is different on the two HOST computers?

Sounds like you have snapshots on the original and used the base image on the second host which will not have all the goodies that you have installed since taking the snapshot.

So if this was created on version =>4.* you should just point your file manager at the folder and dbl click the *.vbox file. This will register the whole thing.

Note you will need to unregister the one you have already, just don't tell it to delete the files.
