Post by marke100 »

I'm trying to burn a dvd on dvd cloner on windows xp as the guest os, xp will not recognize the blank dvd and I have passthrough checked on the storage settings. Any ideas on what I need to try next?

Its not working for all. If not, nothing you can do.

Solution: Create an iso image, copy it to the host and burn it there.

It's possible for passthrough to not work properly and let the Guest know that it can burn as well. That is caused by the drive. Your profile states that you use OSX, so you're on a Mac. Is the drive connected to a SATA controller internally, the new Thunderbolt interface or is it an external USB device. If it's on SATA, then it should work, but the other two interfaces are most likely not supported.

thanks for the help, under the storage cd/dvd drive it states IDE Secondary above the passthrough box is the correct or could this be causing the problem? It is greyed out so cannot change it, but passthrough is checked.

Then its disabled and not supported. So i think yoi have to try an iso solution. Or use Google to find some burning emulators (like demon tools?). Dont know if this exists as freeware, but there are such solutions.

Greyed out means it's not applicable for the current media hooked to the drive. Click on the disc icon and change it to your Host drive. If it is still in a disable state, then the drive isn't supported, which would indicate that it's not an internal drive.
Only when a physical drive is selected, will the passthrough option be available, as it does not make sense to use it for ISO files. The drop down box where it says Secondary Master just indicates on which IDE channel it's on, not what drive or file is linked to it on the Host side.
