Rollback during installation error in newest release.

Post by ypestis »

Hi guys,

So the following happened to me. I wanted to update my Virtualbox and downloaded the newest release 4.1.8 etc.... During installation of this my computer crashed (bad RAM memory)
I replaced the memory, my whole windows profile was corrupt so I had to make a new one...

Now I wanted to reinstall virtualbox it rollbacks during the installation and then ends with an error saying..
Wizard ended prematurely.. and behind this windows and error: Installation failed fatal error during installation..

Now I have run CC cleaner to get rid of false registry... I tried looking for an uninstall tool but it didn't work..

Now I tried to run the installer and just choose install necessary components whicn continued the installation without roaling back but at the end I got an error code 2753

I have no virtualbox anymore in program files...

If somebody can help me out how to troubleshoot this it would be greatly appreciated!

On Windows hosts VirtualBox actually uses the official Windows (MSI) installer, and the problem described above is clearly with MSI (a component of Windows) and not with VirtualBox. Reinstalling Windows would fix it, though obviously that isn't something I'd want to do. If it were me I would attempt to uninstall the old software, including manually deleting any temporary files and VirtualBox program folders, and hunt the registry for any mention of VirtualBox. After that it would be a question for the Windows forums - how do I manually clean up a botched MSI installation.
